Insight into Reality - The Tantric Teachings of the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra
Now Available - the latest Ashram publication Insight into Reality - The Tantric Teachings of the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra by Swami Nishchalananda.

This book presents the teachings of the ancient text known as the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra, believed to have been written about one thousand years ago in the Himalayan region of Kashmir. It encapsulates the timeless teachings of yoga and tantra.
It has been written primarily as a practical manual and gives freely rendered translations of one hundred and twelve traditional practices, called dharanas, which are still relevant to us in the present era. The important message that the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra transmits is that if we have the right attitude, then we can be more aware moment to moment in whatever situation we find ourselves in life. This means that our daily life is not an obstruction, but rather part of our ongoing process of awakening to the miracle of life. If we are alert and open, every act and every situation becomes an opportunity to awaken to the Reality behind our embodied existence. Deeper realisation brings happiness, meaning and quality into our lives.
The theoretical background to this form of Tantra, known as Kashmir Shaivism, is also given together with an explanation of concepts which are relevant to the practices, including the chakras, the five koshas (pancha kosha) and tantric cosmology.
Fifty-eight new practices are also presented which are suitable in the context of our contemporary high-tech and high speed lives. This book is ideal for both yoga practitioners and teachers; 648 pages.
Cost: £20 + postage & packing (specifically for this book the cost of postage and packing will be: in the UK, £3; Europe, £5; elsewhere, £9).

The Edge of Infinity - Collected Works 1990-2002
The Edge of Infinity - Collected Works 1990-2002 by Swami Nishchalananda.

When I was eight years of age I had a dream - a very lucid and vivid dream - that repeated itself over a period of some weeks.
I dreamt that I had travelled endlessly into space passing uncountable stars and galaxies. Eventually, I reached the edge of the universe. There I found a huge brick wall!! I started to pull away some of the bricks to see what was behind. What did I find? An infinitely thick brick wall! Therefore I hadn't reached the edge of the universe or the limit of Infinity as I had ardently hoped. Even in my dream this was a shocking revelation, an impression that lingered after I woke up. Though it was more on the level of my subconscious, I realised that, externally, one could never reach the edge of Infinity, or know the extent of Infinity.
It was some twenty years later, when I was initiated into the secrets of Yoga, that I came to know that, whilst one couldn't actually reach the edge of Infinity externally, it is possible to know Infinity in the depths of one's own Being.

Cost is £15 which includes post and packing.
